Thank You!

All proceeds from the auction will be directed at supporting children’s literacy programs and collections at Waterloo Public Library.
We would also like to thank the athletes and teams who donated items to the auction, The Waterloo Region Record for its partnership in print advertising and Zactor, for their donation of “Reading is Child’s Play” ball caps.
The auction has been a lot of fun, and we look forward to 2012!

Love sports? You’ll love our auction!
Over thirty athletes/sports teams are partnering with the Waterloo Public Library (WPL) to celebrate reading and support children’s literacy in our community with a fundraiser called Reading is Child’s Play.
The list of participants includes Brian Boitano, the Buffalo Bills, Cassie Campbell, Chris Cole, the Detroit Tigers, Elena Hight, ESPN/Disney, Fitz “The Whip” Vanderpool, the Hamilton Tiger Cats, Hayley Wickenheiser, Jennifer Heil, Joannie Rochette, Kelly Vanderbeek, Kevin Harvick, the Kitchener Rangers, Kurt Browning, Lleyton Hewitt, Tony Hawk, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vincent Lecavalier and others.
Participants are sharing the title of their favourite children’s book, as well as donating an autographed item of their choosing. The auction will take place on eBay.ca from October 24 to 31.
“October is Canadian Library Month, and also contains Ontario Public Library Week.” says WPL’s Sandi Hall, the event’s co-ordinator. “The list of recommended books will be released in October, to encourage young readers to discover the joy of books by trying titles recommended by their sports heroes. The money raised from the auction will help WPL continue to have many wonderful, free programs for kids focusing on literacy.”
The auction items range from signed photos and books to hockey sticks and a snowboard. Click here to view the list of auction items.

Welcome to Reading is Child’s Play!
Welcome to “Reading is Child’s Play”, a new fundraiser for children’s literacy programs and collections at Waterloo Public Library in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
In 2009 and 2010, WPL’s unique “Musicians Rock and Read for Kids” auctions of autographed CDs and photos from some of country, rock and pop’s top recording artists were great successes. We wish to thank everyone who bid on items for their support, and to congratulate those who won the autographed items!
For 2011, we are doing something a little different and partnering with athletes and teams in the sports community.
The auction of donated, autographed photos, books, sports equipment etc. will take place on eBay.ca from October 24 to 31, 2011.
